The Objective
An attempt to reduce food waste by making the process of distributing excess food to those in need through an easier & friendlier platform.
The Problem
Food waste is such a huge problem that it's often a simply overlooked habit.
Some of the largest contributors are supermarkets & stores that throw away unsold food in order to manage stock. All this goes on while in the background many unfortunate individuals go hungry. Why?
There's no easy system that connects these two different problems.
The Approach
This project looked at connecting potential suppliers of excess food (that would otherwise go to waste) with struggling people who could benefit from cheaper meal options. A serious issue like this also needed to be taken on with a friendlier approach.

-
Illustration & 2D animation i After Effects
Not many easy alternative options for stores/supermarkets to get rid of their unsold food, hence leading to waste.
Food trucks are popular & have the reputation of being more affordable & open than most restaurants
Insights
Many individuals are uncomfortable with accepting 'free' food or handouts, due to principle.
Local soup kitchens & food bank are often overcrowded, which doesn't help everyone
Process

What is Staple?
The idea is to connect supermarkets with their excess food to users who are in need of it, (though unwilling to take handouts). Through the app, managers and owners can donate their surplus food, which is then picked up by the food truck, set up in public locations, and distributed to the latter users.

Identity
Staple is about giving a helping hand, therefore the simple logo forms and lighter colour palette build the identity that is not intimidating but friendly and inviting.

Signing up made easy
Supermarket managers/owners register with the app and set up their location, then start inputting excess food to be collected by the food truck.

Create Lists
Creating & adding to a list of food items made more intuitive by categorizing food & simplifying options.

Schedule Pickups
Get notified
Pickups can be scheduled through the app, for a time that suits the suppliers & the food truck manages the collections & distribution throughout the day.
Receive notifications and reminders for pickups & the impact of the contribution. Review pickup schedules from the notifications page anytime.

Poster Design
The poster was designed as an advertisement for the service to reach both user groups & create awareness within a wider audience.
